Build your insight and analytical skills with this unique opportunity to work with industry experts and some of the most exciting FMCG brands as a Category Insight Intern.

May Insight Solutions is a small but growing category & insight consultancy, based in Reading, established in 2019.

Our clients range from start-up brands trying to secure their first retailer listing to well-established household names looking for project-based support and expertise.

We aren’t data monkeys – we prefer to take on projects with clients who look for added value and appreciate our expertise.

This role is a fixed 1 year contract, with a flexible start and end date, making it suitable for a year-in-industry placement or as a graduate role.

In this role

You will support on bigger strategic projects and you will have plenty of opportunity to take on projects of your own and interact with our regular clients.

Every day is different - one day you could be working on a category deep dive for a new start-up, the next analysing promotions to help a blue-chip business with their strategy.

You must be willing to get stuck in wherever the support is most needed. There is plenty of scope for your role and responsibilities to be shaped by your own strengths and career goals.

This is a hybrid-remote role requiring you to be in our office in central Reading 2 days a week, with some travel for client meetings etc.

The day-to-day

  • Ongoing Category Management support to several clients – updating category reports, ad-hoc data analysis.

  • Support on strategic projects with insight, category analysis and expertise.

  • Keeping up to date with industry news and seeking out insight from the public domain.

  • Managing content for company website and Linkedin page.

  • Observe and review shopper research, helping to pull together key insight and observations.

To succeed in the role, you would need

  • A curiosity for understanding what drives purchase behaviour and performance.

  • To be proactive and communicate clearly.

  • An analytical way of thinking to draw clear conclusions and recommendations from different sources of information.

  • An eagerness to learn and prioritise personal development.

  • Ability to flex to the needs of each project and client.

  • Excellent PowerPoint and Excel skills.

  • An interest in a long-term career in market research, marketing, sales or data science.
